As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will act as a critical technical leader, architect, and enabler. You will own and support the technical direction of our AI enabled products, turning ambitious initiatives into clear, buildable roadmaps. This is an individual contributor role with a healthy balance of leadership and execution (roughly 60% technical planning, architecture, and proof-of-concepts, and 40% hands-on building). What You’ll Do

  • Lead technical planning, system architecture, scaling our AI powered products and 0-to-1 product builds , weighing long-term tradeoffs with precision
  • Write high-quality code and rapidly build proof-of-concepts to validate architecture options and tackle the team’s most complex technical challenges
  • Act as a technical mentor and accelerator for backend engineers on the team, proactively identifying systemic technical debt, resolving blockers, and raising the bar for engineering excellence
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to turn ambiguous business goals into clear, well-architected initiatives, keeping a healthy backlog of forward-looking work
  • Embed cutting-edge AI workflows (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) into your daily development practices, helping shape how our engineering organization leverages AI effectively and responsibly

What We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of professional engineering experience, with a strong focus on web, and a track record of leading high-impact technical work
  • Proven experience operating at a senior-to-staff level, with a track record of owning system design and architectural choices for high-scale or high-growth products
  • Strong backend depth with Kotlin (experience with TypeScript is a plus)
  • Solid understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS and Kubernetes (you don’t need to be a pure infra specialist, but you know how to navigate it)
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI models and LLMs into customer-facing products
  • Experience working in early-stage, startup, or high-innovation environments. You are comfortable shipping quickly, iterating rapidly, and navigating ambiguity

The starting base salary for this role in New York is between $241,000-$284,000+ target equity + benefits. The base salary offered is dependent upon many factors including skills, experience, location, and education. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Additionally, this role is currently eligible to participate in GlossGenius’s equity plan as well as a range of health & wellbeing, retirement savings, and other benefits within our total rewards offering.

About the Role

Figure is seeking a Director, Crypto Protocols, to spearhead the rollout of PRIME. As the foundational protocol for Hastra.io, PRIME is a premier RWA DeFi token, and this position is central to Figure’s mission to integrate institutional assets with crypto-native frameworks.

In this capacity, you will drive the technical strategy and architectural execution for Hastra’s burgeoning DeFi projects across Ethereum, Solana, and subsequent networks. Designed for a team leader who excels in the codebase, the role is approximately 90% engineering and 10% administration, prioritizing active development over detached oversight.

Collaborating with security, infrastructure, and protocol partners, you will build resilient, production-ready systems. We seek a computer science expert dedicated to building meaningful financial technology. You should value clear communication, lean, non-bureaucratic processes, and the ability to deliver high-quality work on tight, predictable schedules.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the architecture and delivery of PRIME through the Hastra protocol.
  • Design and build core protocol services across RWA DeFi, tokenization, settlement, and cross-chain infrastructure.
  • Own technical direction for new Hastra DeFi projects, from early design through production launch.
  • Develop production systems using Golang, Rust, Solidity, and related blockchain infrastructure.

  • Proven track record in DeFi, smart contracts, token protocols, cross-chain infrastructure, or institutional-grade crypto trading and settlement systems.

This is the compensation range for the role in the United States. Actual compensation may vary based on a candidate’s experience, skills, location, internal equity, and evolving business needs. While most offers are generally made within the middle of the range, final compensation is determined based on the factors above.

Responsibilities

We’re looking for a Principal Engineer to join our Platform team, which owns foundational services like CIAM, Authorization, Search, API Infrastructure — and the tools, frameworks, and developer experience improvements that power engineering at Juniper Square. You’ll be the senior-most technical voice on the team, blending hands-on engineering with technical leadership, architectural ownership, and cross-functional influence.

What You’ll Do

  • Operates as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for high-impact initiatives; takes full ownership of project health, system design, and end-to-end delivery.

  • Partners closely with Product Management and cross-functional teams to clarify ambiguous requirements, map business goals to technical scopes, and manage dependencies.

  • architectural design, pragmatic task breakdown, and execution planning, driving a team of engineers toward incremental deliverables.

  • Establish reusable patterns, technical standards, and platform primitives that other teams can build on.

  • Improve engineering efficiency through better tooling, automation, documentation, observability, and developer workflows.

  • Mentor engineers, raise the quality of technical decision-making, and help the team execute with consistency.

  • Drives adoption of AI tooling across the SDLC — building internal capabilities that automate engineering workflows while ensuring security, compliance, and best-practice alignment.

What We’re Looking For

  • 12+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed production systems.

  • Strong backend engineering experience with Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, Pyramid, or Django.

  • Experience leading technical design for complex systems, including making architecture decisions, evaluating tradeoffs, and guiding implementation across multiple engineers or teams.

  • Experience with relational/nosql databases, including schema design, performance tuning, query optimization, and data modeling.

  • Experience building and operating cloud-native systems using technologies such as AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.

  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, observability, reliability, and operational excellence in production environments.

  • Ability to work through ambiguity, break down complex technical problems, and drive alignment across engineering, product, and design.

  • Strong ownership mindset, with the ability to independently drive high-impact initiatives while collaborating effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Pay & Benefits

The cash compensation below includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.
